Purpose of Scouting
The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
The scout method provides an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training based on the Promise and Law, It's best seen when young people are:
- Enjoying what they are doing
- Learning by doing
- Participating in varied and progressive activities
- Making choices for themselves
- Taking responsibility for their own actions
- Working in groups
- Taking responsibility for others
- Taking part in outdoor activities
- Sharing prayer and worship
- Making and living their promise

Family camp - Friday 14th - Sunday 16th May
| We invite all members of our Group* to camp with us. As this is a family camp, children will have to be accompanied by their parent(s), guardian(s) or join with another family.
| We are planning to have a fun weekend.
If you cannot camp with us we hope you will still be able to join us on the Saturday when we are planning some special team games on the afternoon followed by a barbeque and finishing with a campfire singsong. |
| * The Group is all our young people (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) plus their families and their leaders.

For letter & booking form see - tba
For suggested camp kit kist see - tba
| | Finally, I have to ask that any adults (over 18's) who want to join us on this camp must have completed a CRB disclosure form and been cleared beforehand. For more about the CRB & completing a Disclosure Application Form see Link.

Recycle print cartridges
We are collecting empty print cartridges (only inkjet but not Epsom). This is being organised by Greenwich District towards the cost of a new district headquarters.
They would like you to bring cartridges into meetings with you or if you have lots at work that are not already recycled, perhaps you would be able to have a collection box there. Arrangements can probably be made to collect the box from your workplace. Do let Conway know so he can pass the message on.

Membership Payment
The spring term's subscription of £25 is now due. Please remember this is a membership fee NOT an attendance fee. It is due whether your son or daughter attends regularly or not.
Cheques to "40th Greenwich Scout Group" or cash in an envelope marked subs with the name on it.

Gift Aid
It would help us if you could complete and sign a Gift Aid form so that we can recover the tax paid (currently at 22% as a special concession to charities.) This
increases the value of your Subscription payments from £25 to £32. (An extra £2,000 per year if everyone signs up and all for a little bit of paperwork!)
Our Group Scout Leader, Conway Tearle has a supply of declaration forms (They only take a minute to fill-in). Please speak to him if you want a form or you have any other queries.

Uniforms wanted
We have requests from time to time for second hand uniform items.
We all know that children grow out of their clothes often before they are worn out. It is good to recycle these if we can so can we ask that any outgrown uniforms be passed to our leaders and we will make sure that good use is made of them.
